MD and Basher sign up

Michael ‘MD’ Timms, one of the most popular Romford Raiders of recent times, has signed up for his third season in the Gold and Blue.

Timmsy, still one of the best skaters and stick handlers on the roster, was very happy to rejoin the Raiders’ organisation and Coach Hammill was equally happy to get him back on board for the new campaign.

“I think it’s fair to say that Timmsy had a patchy season last year”, said a Raiders’ spokesman, “but he seemed to get a new lease of life when Jesse came in. Off the ice, he’s a lovely guy, very well liked by his team mates and an important part of the squad. More than that, he can really play this game and although he’s still only 24, we expect his experience to be an important part of our team plan. Timmsy had pressing work commitments last year and this clearly had some impact but he’s really up for the new season and we know he’ll always give it 100% on the night.”

“I guess the most intriguing aspect pre-season is wondering what hairstyle MD will start with. You can bet it won’t be the one he finishes with and you never know just what you’ll find under Timmsy’s helmet!”

The Romford Press Office has also confirmed defenceman Alastair Band as the latest recruit to the new Raiders.

Australian-born Band played his junior hockey at Haringey and progressed to the ENIHL with the Greyhounds and Lee Valley Lions. After a break from UK hockey, Band rejoined Haringey last season but now feels ready for a tilt at the EPL.

"Ali is a stay-at-home D-man so we're not expecting a bucket load of points from him," continued the spokesman. "He's also a big, strong guy and we know he is very capable of looking after himself and his team mates. He's still only 20 and feels ready to take a step up to Premier League level so we're happy to give him the opportunity. A team is made up of a variety of talents and Ali is a welcome addition to the roster."
