TWO BACK........AT THE BACK
Romford Raiders have added two more names to their rearguard by agreeing terms with a goalie and a defenceman, both of whom have played EPL hockey for the Raiders.
Coming in on the blueline is former Chelmsford, Invicta and Wightlink D-man Liam Doyle, who is back at Romford after playing up with the Raiders from last season’s Haringey Greyhounds.
“Liam did a really good job in his brief spell with us last year”, said a Romford spokesman, “and if it wasn't for other commitments I suspect he would have foregone the ‘Hounds and signed up for us permanently. We certainly tried to keep him in the team. Circumstances have changed this season so with Liam available it was an easy decision to welcome him back.”
Also back, this time between the Romford pipes, is netminder Glen Jackson who has previous Premier League experience with the Raiders but also appeared in the Romford junior programme with the Hornets and the Buccaneers.
“Jacko was mainly used as a backup at EPL level but never let us down when he started or took over in the net. We all know that goalies can be a bit precious sometimes but Glen is absolutely dedicated and has a terrific attitude. He also has plenty of experience with Streatham, Lee Valley, Invicta and Oxford on his CV. This could be a very big year for Jacko because although Danny has still to name his other netminder, the regular starter’s slot is certainly up for grabs.“
Danny Marshall continues negotiations with other prospective team members although it is likely that the final few places on the roster will remain vacant until the Raiders' Coach has seen players in action at the summer trials.
