Bracknell Bees Vs Romford Raiders 28th November 2009
Bracknell Bees 8 Romford Raiders 5 (1-2 : 5-3 : 2-0)
Romford are still without a win on the road this season, as they went down 8-5 at Bracknell on Saturday night.
The Bees got an early powerplay chance, when Grant Taylor was called for holding, and they made it count, as Nicky Watt got a touch to a shot from Jaroslav Cesky, to deflect it past Euan King, at 1.33. The scores were level, at 6.59, when Dallas Costanzo picked up a rebound after Dean Tonks saw a shot saved, and lifted the puck into the net. The Bees were caught with too many men on the ice, at 8.20, and Romford took advantage, when Mikko Silvennoinen picked out Danny Marshall in front of the net, and the skipper applied the finish.
The second period saw the team trade 8 goals, as both netminders were peppered with shots. The Bees tied the game again, at 24.51, when Cesky and Michal Pinc teamed up, for the former to beat King. Romford immediately had a chance to re-gain the lead, when Ryan Watt was called for slashing, but they conceded their customary short-handed goal, when Claude Dumas broke away and set up Watt for his second of the night, at 26.52. A harsh tripping call on Jason Buckman was converted by the Bees to move 4-2 ahead, at 29.38. It was Watt who got the goal to complete his hat-trick, as again he positioned himself in front of the net, to tip in a shot from Greg Randall. Romford hit back again, with a nicely worked goal from Silvennoinen. Frankie Harvey won the puck back in neutral ice, and fed Marshall, who in turn slipped the puck inside for the Finn to apply the finish, at 30.29. The 1 goal gap didn't last long, however, as Callum Best was left totally unmarked in front of the net, and was picked out by Ashley Calvert, before forcing the puck home, at 32.50. Romford came back at the Bees once more, as Adam Jones sat out for holding, and Marshall again picked out Silvennoinen in the middle, who lifted the puck into the roof of the net, at 37.14. Despite the goal coming late in the period, there was still time for 2 more goals. Firstly, at 38.05, Watt scored his 4th of the night, capitalizing on more poor defence from Romford to find space, to convert a pass from Randall. But the teams went into the final period separated by just 1 goal, when Andy Munroe won the puck back in neutral ice, and skated in on goal, before sending a low shot through the pads of Adam Marashi, at 39.06.
The first goal of the final period was always going to be key, and unfortunately for Romford, it went to the home side. Again it was Watt, and Dumas who teamed up for the goal, with the Bees player-coach centering the puck for his line mate to fire home his 5th of the night, at 43.58. There was no more scoring, until 57.29, when Cesky sent Pinc away on the left, and he scored with a shot from the wing, to complete the scoring.
Man of the match for Romford went to Silvennoinen, whilst 5 goal Nicky Watt was the Bees choice.
