Slough Jets Vs Romford Raiders 14th November 2009
Slough Jets 8 Romford Raiders 2 (2-0 : 3-1 : 3-1)
Romford went down to another heavy road defeat in Slough on Saturday night. With Darren Cotton and Joe Allen missing through injury, Romford were glad to welcome back Grant Taylor.
It took just 3.10 of the first period for the Jets to open the scoring, when Peter Poljacek converted from close range from a pass from Blaz Emersic. The Jets killed off 3 penalties, on Adam Greener, Billy Phillips, and Joe Greener, with Romford unable to get many telling shots on Gregg Rockman in the home net. Romford's first penalty of the night came at 16.20, when Taylor was binned for interference, and the home side showed Romford how to score on the powerplay, when Slava Koulikov turned home a centre from Peter Jasik.
Just 50 seconds into the second period, the Jets made it 3-0 as a long range effort from Ciaran Long was completely missed by Euan King, and nestled in the back of the net. Another penalty, on Jan Melichar for delay of game was killed off by the Jets, before they put the game beyond Romford with 2 goals in under a minute, just after the half way point of the game. Poljacek scored his second of the night, at 30.51, after again linking up with Emersic, before the roles were revered for Emersic's first goal, at 31.39. Romford finally got on the scoresheet, at 35.28, when Jesse Hammill turned a shot passed Rockman, but the score was 5-1 going into the final period.
Slough removed Rockman for the final period, with Charlie Kaylor taking over between the pipes. The former Romford junior was beaten at 44.24, when Dallas Costanzo sent the puck across the ice, and Frankie Harvey turned it home at the far post. Any hopes of a Romford comeback where extinguished, at 49.41, when Michael Bowman bought the puck out from behind the net, and fired through King. Exactly 5 minutes later Bowman made it 7-2, as he was sent through on King by Koulikov, and sent a low shot into the net. The scoring was completed by Koulikov, at 58.05, as he found himself all alone at the far post, to score from a pass from Dan Davies.
Man of the match for Slough went to Koulikov, with Harvey taking the Romford award.
