All change between the pipes

Romford Raiders have declared an ‘all change’ netminder policy with the capture of two highly regarded goalies who are expected to create genuine competition for the starter’s slot.

Euan King joins the Raiders from treble-winning Peterborough Phantoms. Now 20 years old but an English international since the age of 13 and a GB junior cap, King has spent his whole career at Bretton but sees this as a great opportunity to further develop his profile and establish himself as a natural starter.

Coach Hammill has also raided the Elite League to sign Brit Joe Myers, who has been the Cardiff Devils' number two for the past three seasons. 22 year-old Joe, younger brother of Nottingham Panther Matt, came up through the Cardiff junior organisation and was thrown in at the deep end in 2007 when import goalie Phil Osaer was injured. Against the best forwards in the country, Myers impressed throughout but, like Euan King, sees this as a golden opportunity to be the go-to goalie.

The press statement coincided with the news that Carl Ambler has been released by the Club.

“We’ve been talking to several goalies over the past few weeks and we honestly thought we’d reached an agreement with Scrams,” said a Raiders’ spokesman. “However, just as we were about to make the announcement, we learned that Carl had received a better offer that we just couldn’t match. Carl has done a great job for us and we wish him well at his new team.”

“With no disrespect to the people who’ve gone before, it’s been a while since we’ve had two legitimate contenders for starting netminder but we definitely have now. Coaches love it, goalies don’t but we’re very excited and it’s definitely good for the team. Both guys have had a terrific grounding at their old clubs but have a burning desire to be number one. Euan and Joe, Joe and Euan, there’s no particular order and they’re both very welcome additions to the Raiders’ roster.”
